The PLAN Fund is currently piloting an initiative to provide affordable, accessible personal loans to the clients of our approved nonprofit partners.
This pilot is not currently open to the general public, and we are only accepting applications directly from our nonprofit partners. If you have been referred to us, click here for our 2-minute inquiry form to get started (and please cite the nonprofit that referred you).
This pilot was developed in response to our increasing awareness of the way that microloans can be used to fight poverty rather than simply promote economic development. In addition, with over a decade of experience working hand-in-hand with low- and moderate-income people, we have learned a great deal about the way that limited access to affordable credit can keep people locked away from self-sufficiency.
A few recent studies have confirmed the importance of this:
- Poverty is rising in Texas, according to The Dallas Morning News (link to article)
- The average low-income family in Dallas spends around $800 per year at payday lending & check cashing shops, according to the Dallas Morning News (link to article)
- Nearly 50% of Americans could not come up with $2,000 in 30 days if they had an emergency, according to the Wall Street Journal (link to article)
